OSOGBO-Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has declared that his administration will no longer celebrate May 29 as democracy day in the state instead, the June 12 annulment of the Presidential election believed to have been won by late Chief MKO Abiola will take its place.

The Governor who spoke at a public lecture organised by the State Ministry of Information and Strategy to mark this year’s Democracy Day stated that May 29 was a product of the struggle of the June 12 1993, which the regime of former President Ibrahim Babangida annulled.

According to him, various governments have reason for choosing specialized days mainly for personal purpose rather than the national interest which should be uppermost in the mind of a good leader.

His words: “From today on as long as this government exists in Osun State, May 29 ceases to be our democracy day. Instead I pronounce June 12 as our democracy day. We will not, however, abandon May29 because that is Federal Government’s promulgation.
