BY LAJA THOMAS

THE Consul-General of Chinese Consulate, Mr. Guo Kun, has commended the Nigerian government for its unalloyed support and encouragement of the relationship between Nigeria and China, especially in the areas of trade, culture and education. He stated this at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Nigeria/Chinese relationship at Grace Schools, Gbagada, Lagos, yesterday.

Mr Kun, who was the special guest of honour  on the occasion, expressed satisfaction with the relationship, noting that “it has afforded both countries to explore opportunities in cultural and educational development of their  citizens.”

Also speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Tokunbo Edun, Administrator, Grace Schools, whose school is hosting its maiden Chinese Day celebration, said: ‘’The event is designed to celebrate our bound and cultural ties.

This is a day we have also set aside to celebrate 40 years of Nigerian-Chinese friendship and also to create awareness of Chinese culture, language and norms amongst our students, parents and the entire citizenry.”

Continuing, she said “it is worthy of note that Nigeria and China have a lot in common. Both countries celebrate their independence anniversary on October 1st. It is also interesting to note that while China is the most populous country in Asia, Nigeria is  the most populous country in Africa.”
