President Goodluck Jonathan has constituted a Special Committee to look into the plight of people displaced by the recent violence arising from the announcement of the result of the presidential election.
The committee headed by Muhammad Sani-Sidi, Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, also has representatives from the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Ministry of Health, the Red Cross and the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.
The committee which was constituted on Wednesday, immediately set to work with a visit to Kano where it had exchange with the State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Dan Azumi Doma.
Doma told the visiting presidential panel that “no single death” was recorded during the crisis in the state though he admitted that “some property were destroyed as well as some victims injured, there was no single record of death from the recent incident in Kano and no single corpse was deposited in the mortuary.”
The Leader of the Special Committee and Director General of NEMA, Sani-Sidi while commending swift response of security agencies in controlling the situation told the displaced people that the team was undertaking an on-the-spot assessment inspection.
