MAIDUGURI -Thousands of people thronged the streets of Maiduguri jubilating over the defeat of Governor Ali Modu Sheriff at the senatorial election held, weekend. 
  
As early as 1:00 AM after the announcement of the Borno central senatorial result which saw Alhaji Ahmed Zannah of the Poeple Democratic Party emerged winner with 189,232 votes over Sheriff’s ANPP with 120,377 votes, youths in their thousands, especially, commercial motorcycle riders stormed the streets of Maiduguri drumming and dancing with PDP flags chanting “Sai Baba”.
 
The youths who went round the major streets of the metropolis also pulled down ANPP flags and removed Sheriff`s Billboards and posters. 
 
Speaking to our correspondent, a commercial motorcyclist Abor Usman said “we are happy that Ali Sheriff was defeated because we have suffered in the hands of security operatives that have been  molesting and extorting money from us.”.
 
He said “we will ensure that his political career ends with his tenure as governor, while peace shall reign in Borno state, as you would recall the series of killings, bomb explosions and arson that is prevalent in the state.”
