ABAKALIKI – THE Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Ebonyi State,weekend, expressed concern over the spate of political violence and insecurity in the state.
The association noted that the ugly developments, were particularly on the increase in the state with the present electioneering campaigns embarked upon by political parties.
In a communique at the end of its meeting in Abakaliki, weekend, CAN called on both the state government and security agencies to find lasting solution to the menace in the interest of the residents of the state.
CAN condemned a situation where political violence had led to disruptions of church activities, adding that the recent attack on a Catholic Church at Iziogo in Izzi Local Government Area of the state by hoodlums was unjustifiable.
It also charged men of God in the state to remain calm and non-partisan as they propagate the gospel of Christ.
According to him: “CAN Ebonyi state further calls on all the political parties in Nigeria to forthwith eschew violence, politics of rancour, bitterness and acrimony.
“We call on residents of Ebonyi state to prepare, come out en-mass and exercise their franchise conscientiously bearing in mind that our votes now determine our fate in the future”. He added.
