LP, PDP face-off leaves 7 injured in Ondo

AKURE – SEVEN persons were seriously injured yesterday following a bloody clash between the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Labour Party, LP, in two different areas of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Vanguard learnt that the two incidents occurred at Obanla and Iro streets when supporters of the LP clashed with the PDP during the on-going campaigns for the National Assembly elections.

Publicity Secretary of the PDP,  Chief Yemi Adedipe, said the Iro incident happened when supporters of the party gathered to campaign for the House of Representative candidate for Akure South/North federal constituency, Chief Adedayo Omolafe on the street.

Adedipe claimed some political thugs armed with dangerous weapons stormed the venue of the campaign and insisted that PDP would not hold its rally on his street.

Another chieftain of the PDP  Dr Dare Bada, said the Obanla clash occurred  when some thugs stormed the area and started shooting sporadically into the air.
