Eagles must win well – Erico

Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia has given a graphic description of the type of players he would like to use for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia at the Abuja national stadium on Sunday.

Speaking on cable network, Super Sport, the former Nigeria international said “I would like to see players who will play for 90 minutes without getting tired; players who will run, keep possession of the ball and attack all the time,” adding, “we need players who will be proud to wear the national colours and play as if their lives depended on the outcome of the match.”

He said he will like to see his players mobile and determined.

“That is the type of team I want to see against Ethiopia,” he remarked, reiterating that the weekend clash against the North Africans was a must win.

“It’s a match we must win. We cannot afford not to win that match but what I cannot promise  is the number of goals we will beat them with. Victory is certain.”

Siasia who is noted for hardwork and discipline as key to achieving results said he expected the players would respect the Monday deadline and respond in time as that would enhance their understanding and coherence on the field of play.

The chief coach called for support from fans and promised ,”we will not disappoint.”

Already, some of the invited players started arriving at the weekend and more were expected last night.

Former national team goalkeepers trainer, Joe Erico is confident the Super Eagles will win this weekend’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

Speaking at the weekend with Sports Vanguard, Erico said the Nigerian team as constituted now should re-invent the never-say-die Nigerian spirit and must be up and doing to avoid a surprise from the Ethiopians in Abuja.

Although the veteran coach admitted having played against the Ethiopians before, he could not say anything of the present squad being managed by a Nigerian.

“I played against Ethiopia, but the time lapse has made my experience irrelevant as the Ethiopia of then cannot be the same with the Ethiopia of today,” Erico said.

He believes in the ability of the Nigerian team as he said, “I know our players will not only play for the nation, but will also play for themselves.

They will want to justify their invitation and better their ratings.”

He advised the Super Eagles players to win with a good goal margin. “They have to win well because it is the goals that matter when the chips are down,” Erico said.
