Jos -With tension generated by the Sunday bomb explosion in Jos still in the air, the PDP on Monday shelved its gubernatorial campaign rally scheduled for Bukuru, Jos-South.

 This came just as the party accused its opponents of being behind the explosion that rocked the state capital.

Mr Raymond Dabo, the state PDP Deputy Chairman, claimed the opposition was responsible for the explosions and urged the police to leave no stone unturned toward bringing the perpetrators to book.

 “Our opponents are planting bombs everywhere in Jos now; the aim is to scare people away from voting but we urge our supporters to remain calm,” Dabo said.

 Mr Jonathan Ishaku, the Director of Publicity of the Jang Campaign Organisation, in his reaction, suggested that the LP be investigated and alleged that the party had been violent in its campaign rallies.

 “Everywhere they go to, you find them inflicting violence on the people.

They are violent people and such things cannot be beyond them.

 “They perpetrated violence in Mangu where they brought PDP billboards down, injured our members and destroyed our office. But we have appealed to our teeming supporters to remain peaceful because we are peaceful people.”

 Ishaku, however, rejected suggestions that the campaign rally was shelved because of the security situation in the metropolis.

 “We shelved the campaigns to pay our respects to the late Head of Plateau Civil Service, Mr Satti Dakwak, who is being buried today,’’ he said.

But LP, the main opposition political party in the state, has denied the allegations that it was behind the blasts and accused the PDP of politicising the explosions  to gain sympathy.

Mr Sylvanus Namang, LP Director of Publicity, told NAN that the party (LP) was a peaceful one and was only using peaceful means to change the ruling PDP government in the state.

“Because PDP knows that it has lost the elections, it has become so desperate thereby embarking on all these kinds of diversionary tactics; it is the PDP that is planting all these bombs.

 “Even the way PDP went on air when the incident happened yesterday was enough to create suspiscion. The state government responded, even before the police said anything.

 “Nigerians are no fools and they know those behind these bomb explosions; the LP certainly cannot be behind such dastardly act.’’
