Imeko (Ogun) Retired Maj.-Gen. Adetunji Olurin, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Ogun, on Saturday decried disunity among his kinsmen, Yewa/Awori people, and promised to bring Mr Gboyega Isiaka back to the party.
Isiaka, from the Yewa/Awori stock in Ogun, recently led Gov. Gbenga Daniel’s supporters to join to the rival Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), following a bitter political rivalry among political leaders in the state.
The struggle had pitted Daniel against former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who supports Olurin’s candidacy, while Isiaka, the PPN candidate, is the choice of Daniel.
Olurin said at a campaign rally in Imeko, Isiaka’s community, that it would not be in the interest of Yewa/Awori people to allow politics to divide them.
“It is not good for us Yewa/Awori people to be disunited. We are one. Isiaka is my brother. When I become governor, I will work with him and I will make sure he comes back to PDP.
“I will make sure he is carried along in our quest to develop Ogun. We are going to work together for the progress of this state,’’ Olurin said.
He also promised a downward review of tuition fees in Ogun-owned tertiary institutions if elected.
“I understand that students in state-owned tertiary institutions are paying exorbitant tuition fees. We are going to look into it with the aim of reviewing it downward,’’ he said.
Olurin also promised that his administration would make it possible for everybody to be educated and that all major roads in the state would be reconstructed to ensure easy movement of persons and goods.
“I have stayed in different parts of Ogun, I have seen the problem facing you, I promise that I will not fail you.
“I promise that I will alleviate all your poverty, if you give me the chance,’’ Olurin said.
A former PDP Chairman in the state, Chief Joju Fadairo, urged the people not to vote for any candidate, who was not from PDP.
“Don’t be afraid. Nobody can do anything to you,’’ he said, adding: “Come May 29, we are going to Oke-Mosan (Governor’s office) with Olurin.’’
Mr Ndubuisi Ajoku, who spoke on behalf of the Igbo community, also pledged the group’s support for the candidate.
“We have observed all the gubernatorial candidates and we have come to the conclusion that Olurin is the best among them all,’’ he said. (NAN) Retired Maj.-Gen.
