Eagles: Siasia insists on deadline

Super Eagles of Nigeria coach, Samson Siasia, has issued a reporting deadline to players for a crucial Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia later this month.

The Group B qualifier will be played in Abuja on March 27 and Siasia has warned all invited players to be in training camp in Abuja latest Monday, March 21.

“Any player who fails to be in camp by Monday should rule himself out of the match,” said Siasia, who will announce his squad for the game this week.

This will be Siasia’s first competitive match after leading the team to a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone in a friendly last month in Lagos.

For the Sierra Leone game, he had only two full training sessions with the team and now wants more time to introduce his new ideas on how he wants his team to play.

Two-time champions Nigeria have lost ground to qualifying group leaders Guinea after two rounds of matches and need to now beat visiting Ethiopia to stay in touch with the Syli Stars, who are away to bottom team Madagascar at the end of the month.

Only the group winners are assured automatic berth to the tournament to be staged in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea early next year.
