Elections: Cleric condemns bombings

Bauchi – A cleric, Rev. Lawi Pokti, has condemned the spate of bomb blasts and violence, characterising political activities in the country.

Pokti, Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), Bauchi Regional Church Council (RCC), in Bauchi on Saturday said; “If politicians understand that to be a leader is a call, I want to believe that they will not do it anyhow and by any means to get to leadership positions.

“They should listen to the voice of God and they should wait for the people to elect them to leadership positions.

“They should also avoid the issue
of kidnapping and bomb blasts that have been taking the lives of innocent citizens.

“I think it is very pathetic to have this kind of politicking in this country as far as Nigeria is concerned,” he said.

Pokti called on youths to avoid being used by politicians to perpetrate all kinds of violence and thuggery.

“We pray that this election will be conducted peacefully, it will be free and fair so that we can have leaders who are after God’s heart and who will bring this nation to the position that people expect.

The clergyman said that leadership came from God, hence the need for politicians to shun do-or-die attitudes in seeking leadership positions.
