Police halt Buhari’s campaign in Niger

By Wole Mosadomi

MINNA-Niger State Police Command has stopped former Head of State and presidential candidate for Congress for Progressive Change, General Muhammadu Buhari, from holding his presidential campaign in Minna the state capital today.

However, state chairman of the party Alhaji Umaru Shuaibu has vowed that the party will go ahead with the rally as scheduled despite the Police directive.

Rising from an emergency meeting with other top security agencies in the state, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Michael Zuokumor, told journalists that the directive to the CPC to postpone the rally in Minna has become necessary in order to avoid a clash between their supporters and that of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

He said PDP will also be holding a zonal rally in Suleja and would not want a situation whereby there will be bloody clash between supporters who might eventually come face to face with each other in either Suleja or Minna.
