LAGOS – A pro-democracy group, Alliance for Deepening Democratic Values In Nigeria, ADDVN, has accused Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, of double standards over its adoption   of Cosmas Iwu, younger brother to ex-INEC Chairman, Dr. Maurice Iwu, as a senatorial candidate  in Imo State.

The group in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity and Information, Mr. Adelankan Taiwo, yesterday, berated the political party for adopting Iwu, saying “ it is a known fact that the same party spearheaded  attacks on Maurice Iwu as INEC’s helmsman over alleged misdemeanors.”

Noting that the ACN had at different fora canvassed the removal of  Maurice Iwu while in office, over alleged official misconduct in the discharge of his responsibilities, it, therefore, wondered why the party would now throw its weight behind  a blood relation of the ex-electoral umpire.

The sudden romance with the Iwus by the ACN, according to the statement, “ smacks  deceit, double standards and lack of principles and political ideology, as Cosmas Iwu had earlier indicated interest to contest for the position on the ticket of the PDP but chickened out at the last minute when he discovered that the odds were against him.”
