Lam blames doctors’ strike on insensitivity of Oyo govt

BY OLA AJAYI
IBADAN — Former Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, yesterday said the excruciating pains patients were going through in the state as a result of doctors’ strike was caused by the insensitivity of the Peoples Democratic Party led government.

Doctors in the state have been on strike for about 50 days over low take-home pay and harsh conditions of service. The strike has taken untold hardship on the patients who are daily forced to patronize private hospitals whose fees are high.

Adesina, in a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state, Mr. Matthew Oyedokun, decried alleged “total collapse of health sector in Oyo State” and concluded that the prolonged strike by the health workers was caused by the insensitivity of government to the plight of the citizens.

For good health care delivery, the ex-governor called on the people of the state to “ensure that they vote for ACN in the April election.”

Adesina also sympathized with the food vendors in all the public schools in the state for the alleged anti-people policy of the state government “of throwing them into an oversaturated unemployment market due to what the PDP government termed rumour of food poisoning in public schools in Oyo State”.

He advised the State Government to reverse the policy for fairness and justice because the food vendors were ignorant of what the government was making them to suffer.

“Instead for the PDP government in Oyo State to continue finding solution to the myriad of problems confronting the state, they are compounding the problems, through anti-people policies”, he alleged.

According to the leader of ACN in the state, “the PDP wants to use the Police to intimidate and harass the ACN supporters throughout the state. The police should maintain its impartial role and should not allow enemies of peace to use it to destroy Oyo State.

“We are monitoring the activities of the PDP and Government of Oyo State regarding what they are up to in the journey towards April polls. The ACN will leave no stone unturned to expose PDP’s dastardly plans to upturn democracy in Oyo state”.

He warned the PDP and the Government of Oyo State not to do anything against the masses of the state, adding that doing so would signal the quick end of PDP and its government in the state.
