Inec recognised PPP for April polls- Edebiri

BY JIMITOTA ONOYUME
PEOPLES Progressive Party, PPP, has dismissed as untrue, reports in some national newspapers that the party was not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to contest the April polls.  National leader of the party, Mr Solomon Edebiri, said contrary to the report, the electoral body recognised the party’s candidates for various elections round the country.

According to him, the party has candidates in Sokoto, Gombe, Edo, Delta States and so on for various seats in the coming elections. “The party was fully registered for the April polls. Nigerian electorates should ignore any thing contrary to this,” he said.

Continuing, the national leader who said the party was set to secure victory at the general polls, enjoined the Federal Government to ensure it conducted a credible and free election.

On the recent incident of stampede at a rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which resulted in the loss of about ten lives, Mr Edebiri called for steps to avert such ugly experience in the future.

While condoling with families of the deceased, he said he was touched by the number of death from the sad development.

“Whatever was the cause of the stampede we regret the death and casualties from it. Our hearts go out to families of the deceased. We pray God to grant those who died eternal rest,” he said.
