Lagos – An overzealous 61-year-old man, Olayinka Aina, who threw out the property of his aged father’s tenant, has landed in court, charged with stealing valuables worth N302,000.
Aina, alleged to have committed the offence on June 9, 2010, is standing trial before a Surulere Magistrates Court, Lagos.
The accused, who allegedly acted without his father’s consent, threw out the property of one Mr Taiwo Popoola from the house situated at No. 11 Joseph Shyngle St., Surulere, Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ishola, told the court that Aina on the pretext of throwing out the tenant’s property allegedly stole valuables worth that amount.
“The accused stole a golden watch, two roofing sheets, three jewels and some cash, all totaling N302, 000,” Ishola told the court.
The prosecutor said thatAina’s action followed his claim that he wanted to lease the rooms occupied by Popoola to another person.
Ishola said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
The Magistrate, Miss N. Tobi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 21 for trial. (NAN)
