WORRIED by the increasing violence in parts of the country, as the 2011 general elections draw nearer, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, has reminded Nigerians that it was only in a peaceful atmosphere that they could register and vote for candidates of their choice and send packing those who regard politics as a do- or-die affair.

Anambra State chairman of CNPP, Prince Isaac Onuka, in a statement in Awka, warned against doing anything capable of breaking law and order, urging security operatives to deal decisively with anybody caught causing the breach of public peace before, during and after the elections.

“CNPP is using this opportunity to call on Nigerians to go out to register during the forthcoming registration and vote during the election. This is your time to remove those representatives who have not accounted for the billions of naira meant for their constituencies. This is the time to replace them with qualitative and honest men and women who mean well for their people,” Onuka said.

He commended Governor Peter Obi for consistently ensuring the security of lives and property in Anambra State, adding that he had demonstrated that the fundamental role of any administration was to secure the citizens and their property.

He also commended the state coordinator of the state vigilance service, Chief Kenneth Okonkwo who, he observed, has been complementing the efforts of the police at the grass root level, noting that with their combined efforts, Anambra is not likely to record any violence during this critical period.
