Former chairman of the Nigeria Amateur Boxing Association, NABA, David Johnson, has welcomed the announcement by new Sports Minister, Professor Taoheed Adedoja that the hostel block of the boxing Village at National Stadium in Lagos would be top priority projects for completion within the first quarter of the year.
“That would be wonderful if he can pursue it to a logical conclusion. If he completes it before leaving office, that will make Professor Adedoja an achiever, as it would be a departure from actions and inactions of his predecessors”, he said in a telephone interview.
“I know Professor Adedoja very well, he was with us in those days in sports when he represented NAPHER in one of the associations but I never knew he is the new person in sports. I think he understands the problems and knows what we want in sports,” he added.
Johnson, an ex-amateur boxer and former chairman of the Plateau State Sports Council also said, “it will really make me happy that at last, that project can be completed and put to good use by boxers for camping of athletes before major competitions while using the Brai Ayonote gym for training.
