The former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr Chris Akomas, is enmeshed in fresh trouble in  his bid to contest the state governorship election as a case has been filed against him in an Umuahia High Court.

The suit is seeking an order restraining him from contesting the governorship elections on the platform of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA.

According to the statement of claim, Mr Chuks E . Cooky, a PPA member of ward 11 of Amuzukwu, Umuhaia North Local Government Area, Akomas was indicted and impeached by the State House of Assembly in 2010.

Cooky averred that he protested to the party leaders on the non-qualification of the former deputy governor to contest elections, as his impeachment was conveyed to the governor by Abia State House of Assembly.

Cooky requested the court to determine whether a person indicted under section 182 (1) of 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria could contest for governorship election of a state.

He further asked the court to determine whether a person indicted under Section 182 (1) (i) of the constitution and impeached under Section 188 of the constitution, after being found guilty by a panel of inquiry set up under Section 188 (5) of the 1999 constitution, was disqualified from contesting governorship election.

Cooky then sought an order of the court restraining the PPA from admitting Akomas as one of its governorship aspirants, adding that it ran contrary to section 182 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He also sought an injunction restraining Akomas from parading himself in any manner whatsoever as gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, stating that he was legally impeached by the State House of Assembly.

The suit, with N0. HU/2/11, has Akomas, Mr Ezeogo Onuoha, Chairman of PPA and the entire party as defendants.

No date has been fixed for hearing.
