ENUGU—GOVERNOR Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, weekend, described late elder statesman Pa Anthony Enahoro who passed awa,y Wednesday, as a nationalist and patriot who gave the greater part of his life to the struggle for the independence and unity of the country.
Chime who stated this in a condolence message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr Chukwudi Achife, said Pa Enahoro would also be remembered for his contributions to the enthronement of democracy and respect for rule of law and human rights.
He noted that Pa Enahoro maintained a fearless but principled posture in all his struggles against the forces of oppression in the country adding that he inspired a whole generation of Nigerians to fight for justice and freedom from oppression.
Chime said, “The departure of the great Nigerian Statesman, Pa Anthony Enahoro is indeed a sad loss to this country but we are consoled by the fact that he lived a fulfilled life fighting for the enthronement of the finer human values of freedom, equity, justice, rule of law and respect for human rights, in his beloved country”.
He urged Nigerians to emulate Pa Enahoro’s doggedness in the pursuit of patriotic causes stressing that the country needed people who like the elder statesman would at all times stand for and by the truth, the inconveniences notwithstanding.
