By Daniel Idonor
The Federal Executive Council, FEC, Wednesday approved N770 million for the procurement of 100 units of operational vehicles, including double cabin pick-ups vehicles, five Ford multi-carrier ambulances and four medium duty tow trucks for the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.

Addressing State House correspondents, after the weekly FEC meeting which was presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, the outgoing Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili,  joined by her incoming colleague, Mr Labaran Maku, said the procurement of the vehicles would enhance effective and efficient service delivery of FRSC’s mandate.

According to her, the acquisition of some operational vehicles for the FRSC in 2008 by the government “helped improved the corps’ performances that translated to 51.27 per cent reduction in road traffic crashes and 42.75 reduction in road crashes-related deaths nationwide”.

Council, she noted, also approved N6,533,496,888.19 for the construction of primary road to mass housing estate (arterial road S30), in the Federal Capital territory, FCT.
