An International Canoe and Kayak competition named after the governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke has been approved with Calabar as host by the governor for later this month.
Secretary of the Rowing and Sailing Federation, Victor Anusa who disclosed that the governor gave his assent to the competition last week, praised the governor for coming to the assistance of the Federation in approving the championship.
The scribe who disclosed that the competition would be the first of its kind in Nigeria said that participants for the championship are expected to come in from within and outside the country.
Aside the Championships, the governor is expected to formally launch the Sailing Boats donated to the state by the Federation in furtherance of development of the sport in the state, Anusa said.
Victor Anusa stated further that the Rowing Championship would henceforth be incorporated into the Calabar Christmas Carnival held annually in the Cross Rivers State Capital in the month of December.
