Siasia, NFF may clash over assistants

By Tony Ubani

THE smooth relationship that has so far existed between the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia may be heading for the rocks following the insistence of the football house to appoint Siasia’s assistants.

But Siasia, a Niger Deltan,  has warned that they should allow him appoint people who can work with him to move Nigerian football forward.

“I need to appoint those I can work with. It will be counter-productive if they appoint people I can’t work with”, the Eagles gaffer said yesterday in response to NFF’s decision that they would appoint his other assistants at their own time. Siasia who was unveiled by the football house was allowed to appoint Dutchman Simon Kalika as his assistant. A second assistant coach and a goalkeeper’s trainer are yet to be appointed by NFF.

But the FA are unmovable that they should be the one to appoint the remaining assistants. A very strong voice in the FA said that they have given much to Siasia to appoint his right hand man, Kalika insisting that he should allow them appoint others that can help Nigerian football. “We appointed coaches for Amodu Shuaibu, Berti Vogts, and Lars Lagerback.

Siasia should not be different. We want Nigerian coaches to also hold sway in the scheme of things. He cannot have his way all the time”, the source said, adding “ours is to guide because we also want results.”Siasia may still have much battle to fight  following the resolve of the FA to buy a second-hand car popularly called Tokunboh for him.
