UGHELLI—EXECUTIVE Assistant to the Delta State governor on Physically Challenged Persons, Miss Omassan Buwa, has enjoined physically challenged persons in the State to shun violence and confrontational approach in pursuance of their demands.
Buwa, who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen during the celebration of the 2010 International Day for Persons with Disabilities, advised them to sustain their support for the present administration.
She said the state government was irrevocably committed towards improving their living conditions, adding that the employment of some of them into the state civil service was a testimony of government’s commitment to their wellbeing.
While urging them not to lose hope because of their condition, she said their present state does not hinder their aspiration to live a worthy life.
She added that there was ability in disability.
“Government is not unmindful of your plight. Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development as well as her office had been empowering them in the area of skill acquisition programmes and provision of starter-packs such as generators, hair dryers, among others to enable you not only to start your own businesses but also to become employers of labour,” she said.
