2011: PDP aspirants adopt Elechi as consensus candidate

By Peter Okutu
ABAKALIKI—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirants of Ezza extraction contesting 2011 general election in Ebonyi State have adopted the incumbent Governor of the State, Chief Martin Elechi as their consensus gubernatorial candidate saying that they would pull their support behind him to ensure he returns for a second term in office.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting on Thursday in Abakaliki, the aspirants noted that they had agreed to play their part in ensuring a peaceful electioneering campaign without violence adding that the expectations of some ill-minded politicians to make them be at loggerheads will not work.

The Leader of the group and House of Representatives Member, representing Ezza North/ Ishielu Federal constituency, Chief Igwe Nwagu Paulinus made it clear that the group had not selected or adopted as consensus candidate for Senate, House of Representatives and or House of Assembly but that at the appropriate time, Ezza aspirants would present to the government and PDP its consensus candidate if any.

He noted that the reason for their coming together was to promote good partisanship among all contestants adding that the Ezza clan will continuously work in tandem with policies that will engender peace and unity in next year’s general elections.

He said: “all aspirants under the PDP platform of Ezza extraction have agreed for peaceful electioneering campaigns without violence or acrimony. Nobody has been selected or adopted as consensus candidate for Senate, House of Representative and or House of Assembly. At the appropriate time, Ezza shall present to the government and PDP her consensus candidate, if any.

Anyone who is parading himself or herself as having been adopted or selected as consensus candidate on behalf of the Ezzas under any cover or guise should be discountenanced.” He warned.
