Adamugate: FIFA’s image damaged , Ogura

By Ben Efe

As the world awaits what action FIFA will take against Nigeria’s Amos Adamu and Tahiti’s Reynald Temarii for their involvement in a cash for vote scandal, executive member of the world soccer ruling body, Junji Ogura has claimed that the saga has damaged FIFA’s reputation.

Adamu and Temarii are expected appear before the FIFA ethics committee on November 15 for a three-day hearing of the matter. But Japanese Ogura said that the episode was embarrassing to FIFA  and he could not tell whether Adamu and his co accused was guilty or not.

“I’m sure there’s damage for FIFA and for the World Cup,” Fifa executive member Ogura told BBC Sport.
“We were very surprised and disappointed when the executive committee announced two members had been provisionally suspended. We are waiting for the outcome of the Fifa ethics committee later this month and we don’t know if they are innocent.”

Adamu and Temarii fell for a sting carried out by Sunday Times of London reporters. Adamu was accused of asking for a bribe of 500, 000 pounds, while Temarii , a Fifa vice_president who represents the Oceania confederation, was alleged to have requested £1.5m for a sports academy to be built in the region.
