LAGOS—NATIONAL Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers, NUCECFWW, has called on government at all levels to lay emphasis on job creation and infrastructural development to reduce the army of unemployed Nigerians, especially youths, who are now willing tools for all sorts of crimes.

President-General of NUCECFWW, Comrade Samuel Adeoye, while addressing members of the union’s National Executive Council, NEC, in Lagos, lamented that the  global economic recession had equally impacted negatively on Nigeria’s economy, particularly the building, wood and construction sector.

He said: “It is equally important to note that the  global economic recession has had some negative impacts on Nigeria’s economy, particularly the building, wood and construction sector.

“However, our commitment to running a responsible trade union organisation is anchored upon our heritage,  values and high regard for the dignity of labour.”

The theme for this year’s NEC meeting was,  Nigeria At 50: Industrial Development, Good Governance and the Future of Nigerian Workers.
