Oyo lawmakers drum support for Akala re-election bid

IBADAN—AS preparations for the 2011 elections heighten up, Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State yesterday, held a closed door meeting with some members of the State House of Assembly at the Agodi Government House.

Vanguard gathered that part of the agenda of the meeting was on how the governor would actualize his second term ambition.

But speaking with newsmen after the meeting, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, representing Ibadan North East II State Constituency, Mr. Lamidi Nafiu Baale,  said it was predicated on how to move the State forward in terms of development.

He noted that the meeting was also centred on how to improve on the various  socio-economic and infrastructural achievements of Governor Alao-Akala’s administration for the past three and a half years.

Mr. Lamidi Nafiu disclosed that the legislators had to rub minds with the Governor to improve more on other sectors in the state that required urgent attention for the benefit of the people.

Mr. Nafiu described Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala as a listening leader, adding that there had been cordial relationship between the legislative and executive arms of government and that the State had enjoyed relative peace since the assumption of this administration.

He enjoined all eligible voters to come out en-masse to register in the forth coming voters’ registration exercise to enable them  vote for Governor Alao-Akala in the 2011 governorship election in the State.

Mr. Ige Felix Oyebisi of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, representing Kajola State Constituency also confirmed that the administration of Otunba Alao-Akala had witnessed tremendous social, economic and infrastructural development since inception.

He said that concerted efforts were being made by the State House of Assembly to reconcile the aggrieved members of the House in the interest of peaceful co-existence.

In a statement sent through an e-mail by the Chief Press Secretary to the  Governor,  Mr. Abraham Ojo, the legislators also met with the executive arm of government to appreciate the achievements of Otunba Alao-Akala administration, especially on the rehabilitation and construction of roads across the State.

Giving details of the achievement of Akala in the provision of rural electricity, he said each Local Government in the State could boast of 10 transformers procured by the State Government.
