Umuahia — HUMAN Rights, Justice and Peace Foundation, HRJPF, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Abubakar Ringim, to order the immediate arrest of the DPO attached to a police station in Aba, Abia State, for allegedly raping a lady to death.

The DPO was alleged to have raped one Princess Chinasa Onwukwe, a native of Igbere in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State to death after allegedly drugging her.

Rather than order for his arrest while investigation is on, the group, in a statement signed by its President, Chidi Nwosu, is accusing Abia State Police Command of shielding him.

The group threatened “not to hesitate to employ democratic and civilized means to ensure that justice is dispensed to the slain.

“Solid information available to the HRJPF revealed that since the callous spilling of that innocent blood, Abia State Police Command, rather than arrest and detain the DPO, pending the outcome of its investigation, as would have been done to a commoner, has been shielding him.

“Like Nero Caesar who fiddled while Rome burned, the suspect, under the protection of Abia State Police Command, has relocated to Hotel Terminus – the most expensive hotel in Aba.”

The group queried why Abia State Police Command has not ordered the immediate arrest of the DPO, and alleged that the police high command in the state was compromising on the issue.
