By Samuel Oyadongha
Yenagoa—Several government establishments among them, the anti bomb squad and anti kidnapping outfits have been submerged by flood in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, after days of heavy rains.

The surging flood also affected the police CIB, Special Anti Robbery Squad, Crack Squad, Instant Reaction outfit, and the Nigerian Prisons Services, the State Security Services, SSS, as well as a Federal High Court.

The offices are located on the flood prune old NUJ Secretariat Road in the Ovom suburb of Yenagoa.

When Vanguard visited the area,  volunteers were seeing clearing the drainage on the sides of the road to enable the pool of water drain away.

A Police  officer, who spoke anonymously, told Vanguard, that their office equipment and documents were destroyed by the flood.

According to him, the pool of water had made the area a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other reptiles.

“It is always a nightmare for us here anytime there is heavy rainfall. Our equipment and other working facilities are gradually being damaged by water.”

The disturbed officer, however, expressed optimism that the on-going clearing of the drainages would go a long in curbing the menace.

“We thank God you are here to see things for yourself,” he said, pointing to the anti bomb premises the submerged by flood.

“The flood has been a source of anguish to the police formation and other security establishments in the area, but also residents in the adjourning estates,” he said.

A resident,   who spoke to Vanguard, blamed the flood on the blockage of  adjoining canals by rain water, as the water  now has no outlet to drain away.
