In winning the first gold of the Commonwealth Games gold, Nigeria’s Augustina Nwaokolo denied Indians the chance to have the bragging rights of being the first country to win gold, being the hosts.

Local hopes rested on Soniya Chanu’s shoulders but the pre_event favourite failed to match Nwaokolo who won with 175kg total haul.Indian weightlifting coach Harnam Singh apologised to the host nation for the missed gold.
