His candidature was unanimously affirmed by all delegates that participated in the state Congress of the party.
Faforiji was the only candidate that stood for the election, supervised by Mba Ajah, the chairman Osun SDP
electoral committee and officials of Independent National Electoral Commissione, INEC.
Speaking shortly after taking oath of office, administered  by Barrister Sunday Ojo-Williams,  Faforiji declared the readiness of the SDP to win September

He said those aggrieved would be persuaded to join efforts of others to reposition SDP to make it a formidable force ahead of governorship election.
Faforiji, a former comissioner in the state also commended members of the party in  the state, INEC representatives, SDP electoral panel and  other stakeholders for their commitment, saying their  cooperation led to the peaceful conclusion of the local and
 state Congress of the party.
While calling for a united front to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Faforiji urged aggrieved
members to shield their sword and unite with the new State Executive Committee.
Earlier, the chairman of the SDP electoral panel,
Hon. Mba called on delegates to conduct themselves peacefully adding that he was impressed by the conduct of
members of the party since the exercise  started .
