…As SBTS targets cybersecurity, compliance with Aegis360AI
By Prince Osuagwu, Hi-Tech Editor
Nigeria’s ambition to reduce its dependence on foreign artificial intelligence templates is gaining momentum, with more home-grown AI initiatives emerging to tackle the country’s peculiar economic, security and regulatory challenges.
The latest addition to the growing local AI mix is Aegis360AI, an AI-native enterprise compliance, threat intelligence and trust management platform developed by SBTS Group.
Its emergence comes on the heels of initiatives such as Anambra State’s push to deploy locally developed AI solutions for government operations and revenue generation, further strengthening the argument that Nigeria may be gradually moving from simply consuming imported AI technologies to building systems around its own realities.
Aegis360AI is targeting a different but equally critical area: helping Nigerian organisations manage cybersecurity, risk, regulatory compliance and audit readiness from a single platform.
As banks, fintechs, government agencies, oil and gas companies and other enterprises increasingly adopt cloud platforms, digital payments and automated systems, cybersecurity and compliance are becoming too interconnected to be managed effectively through separate tools.
SBTS said the platform is designed to move organisations away from the traditional spreadsheet-driven approach, where compliance teams scramble for documents whenever audits or regulatory deadlines approach.
Instead, Aegis360AI automates elements of evidence collection, monitors controls and provides a continuous view of an organisation’s security and compliance posture.
Its capabilities include automated compliance mapping, continuous control monitoring, vendor and third-party risk management, automated evidence collection, real-time risk prioritisation, audit reporting and security monitoring across hybrid environments.
A major attraction is its ability to map common controls across several regulatory and international frameworks. These include Nigerian data protection requirements and Nigeria Data Protection Commission expectations, alongside standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 42001, SOC 2 and HIPAA.
The platform also integrates with technology environments including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and GitHub to support automated evidence gathering and compliance workflows.
But while artificial intelligence drives much of the automation, SBTS is not placing critical cybersecurity decisions entirely in the hands of machines.
Its human-in-the-loop model leaves high-risk findings, incident response, regulatory interpretation and remediation decisions to human experts.
Beyond compliance, Aegis360AI is backed by SBTS Group’s Security Operations Centre, offering continuous threat monitoring, incident response, endpoint protection, vulnerability management and governance support across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
The platform also tackles third-party risks by centralising vendor onboarding, monitoring changes in vendors’ security posture and providing unified risk scoring.
For Nigerian enterprises, the bigger proposition may therefore be about digital trust.
As businesses become increasingly dependent on interconnected technologies, the ability to demonstrate that data is protected, risks are monitored and regulatory obligations are continuously met could become as important as the technology itself.
With Aegis360AI joining initiatives such as Anambra’s local AI drive, Nigeria’s emerging AI story is gradually acquiring another dimension: not merely using AI, but building indigenous intelligence capable of solving indigenous problems.
[9/2, 12:44 PM] D’ Prince: Beyond battery, Xiaomi’s new phone built for pace of everyday life —Li Shuyue, Head of Marketing, Xiaomi
