Business executive gets US honorary citizenship, commendation

Business mogul, Alhaji Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, has been honoured with an honorary Georgia citizenship and a formal resolution of recognition and commendation from the Georgia State Senate, United States of America.

The honours were presented during an official legislative session by the legendary Senator Donzella James, representing Georgia’s 28th  District, who read the historic Senate resolution, celebrating Chief Egungbohun’s lifetime achievements, business prowess, and profound humanitarian legacy.

Senator James highlighted Chief Egungbohun’s inspiring background, noting that his life journey reflects absolute grit, discipline, and an extraordinary drive for self-education.

From his humble upbringing in his historic hometown of Ilaro, Yewa land, Ogun State, Nigeria, he went on to establish one of West Africa’s most active, industrious, and highly diversified business empires—the IBD Group of Companies.

The Senate resolution formally recognized Chief Egungbohun’s core business competencies and operational leadership in several major sectors, including: Logistics, Shipping, and Importation Management; Agribusiness and Agricultural Enterprise Development; Quarrying, Hospitality Management and Real Estate Investment.

Beyond his business conglomerates, Chief Dende was lauded as a notable, tireless philanthropist. 

Through his corporate social responsibility foundations, including the IBD Foundation in Nigeria and the IBD Global Impact Initiative in Canada, his charitable investments have continuously uplifted:

vulnerable youth and aspiring entrepreneurs (through educational scholarships, mentorship, and capacity building; widows and disadvantaged family units, providing welfare support and healthcare access.

The legislative honor from the Georgia State Senate marks another prominent feather in Alhaji Dende  cap, joining other national and international honors he has accumulated over his career.

Upon reading the resolution, Senator James presented the beautifully framed certificate and resolution to Chief Egungbohun, followed by a standing ovation from present legislative stakeholders and guests.

Accepting the award, Chief Egungbohun expressed his deep gratitude to Senator James, the Georgia State Senate, and the citizens of Atlanta, reaffirming his lifelong devotion to investing in human capital, facilitating global trade linkages, and lifting vulnerable communities across the world
