SOKOTO: Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has endorsed Deputy Governor Idris Mohammed Gobir as his running mate for a second term, describing the decision as a reflection of confidence in a trusted ally whose loyalty, competence and commitment have contributed significantly to the achievements of the administration.

The endorsement, contained in a statement issued by the Director of Press Affairs in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Garba Mohammed, was presented as a strategic move aimed at sustaining stability, continuity and effective governance in the state.

According to the statement, the working relationship between Governor Aliyu and his deputy has remained cordial, productive and focused on delivering the administration’s development agenda since they assumed office.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s decision to retain Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir for a second term is a well-deserved recognition of a productive partnership that has significantly contributed to the progress and stability of Sokoto State over the past three years,” the statement said.

It noted that the administration had benefited immensely from the mutual trust and understanding between the governor and his deputy, a factor it described as critical to the success of any government.

“In every successful administration, the relationship between the Governor and Deputy Governor plays a vital role in achieving government objectives. Sokoto State has been fortunate to witness a cordial, respectful and result-oriented partnership between Governor Ahmed Aliyu and Deputy Governor Idris Mohammed Gobir,” it added.

The statement further described Gobir as a loyal, humble and hardworking public servant who has distinguished himself through dedication to duty and unwavering support for the administration’s programmes and policies.

“Since assuming office, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership in the numerous assignments entrusted to him by the Governor, beyond the discharge of his constitutional responsibilities,” it stated.

As Overseer of the Ministry of Works, the deputy governor was credited with supervising several road and infrastructure projects across the state, ensuring close monitoring, quality execution and timely completion of projects.

“His supervision of critical infrastructure projects has reflected the administration’s commitment to delivering durable and impactful development for the benefit of the people of Sokoto State,” the statement said.

It also highlighted Gobir’s role in coordinating strategic government programmes and representing the governor at local, national and international engagements, where he was said to have projected the image and interests of the state with distinction.

“Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir has represented the Governor with dignity, maturity and an unwavering commitment to advancing the interests of Sokoto State wherever he has been called upon to serve,” it noted.

The statement stressed that the governor’s confidence in his deputy was built on years of proven loyalty, integrity, discipline and commitment to public service, qualities that have earned him increased responsibilities within the administration.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s confidence in his Deputy did not emerge overnight. It is the product of years of demonstrated loyalty, integrity, discipline and dedication to service,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Gobir has consistently placed the success of the administration above personal political ambitions, maintaining harmonious relationships with government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders across the state.

“Throughout the administration, he has remained focused on supporting the Governor’s vision rather than pursuing personal political interests, thereby strengthening unity and cohesion within government,” it added.
