The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has appointed Barrister Nwachukwu Chukwukairo Okafor as its new National Assembly Relations Executive, in a strategic move aimed at strengthening engagement between the organised private sector and the legislature.
The appointment, contained in a letter dated June 4, 2026, positions Okafor as the principal liaison between NACCIMA and the National Assembly, with responsibility for coordinating legislative monitoring and policy advocacy efforts.
In his new role, Okafor will track bills, motions, and committee proceedings affecting commerce, industry, agriculture, and broader private sector interests. He is also expected to organise strategic engagements, facilitate stakeholder consultations, and ensure NACCIMA’s active participation in public hearings and legislative processes.
According to the association, the new executive will prepare periodic reports, legislative updates, and policy briefs aimed at improving Nigeria’s business and investment climate. He will also drive advocacy initiatives designed to support regulatory reforms and private sector growth.
Okafor is further tasked with maintaining effective working relationships with key National Assembly officials, including committee chairpersons, clerks, and relevant departments, while representing NACCIMA in authorised legislative and policy forums.
He will also contribute to the development of position papers, memoranda, and submissions on issues affecting industry and commerce, working closely with the association’s legal adviser and leadership.
An accomplished lawyer, entrepreneur, and international development expert, Okafor brings decades of experience in corporate governance and business management. He holds two master’s degrees, including a law degree from the University of Lagos and a postgraduate degree from the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy.
He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990 after graduating from what is now Abia State University. His early career included extensive service at the former Nigeria Airways Limited, where he rose to become Chief Legal Officer and played a key role in the establishment of subsidiaries such as Sky Power Aviation Handling Company (SAHCOL).
Okafor also founded and manages several international businesses, including Bluecross Home Care & Health Services Inc. and Angel Consultants Inc. in the United States, alongside other ventures in aviation, security training, and trade services.
Born in Umunze, Okafor attended St. Joseph’s Primary School and later All Saints’ Grammar School before proceeding to the Federal School of Arts and Sciences, Suleja. Beyond his professional life, he is a columnist and poet with publications in local and international outlets.
He is married to Chinonyerem Okafor, a pharmacist and business professional, and they have five children. His interests include travel, golf, and reading.
NACCIMA said the appointment reflects its commitment to deepening institutional engagement with policymakers to enhance Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.
