Chieftain of the APC and 2023 candidate of the APC for Warri South 1 seat in the Delta State House of Assemby, Dr. Michael Merogun has tendered his resignation from the All progressives Congress in Warri South, Delta State.
Merogun in a press conference held Friday May 1 at his residence declared that due to the undemocratic approach, imposition and disregard for the will of the grassroots, and suppression of fresh ideas have become entrenched One cannot continue to pour new wine into old wineskins.
Merogun, while displaying his resignation letter signed by the APC Ward 4 Chairman, Daniel Oyibo said thus: “I, Dr. Michael Eyituoyo Merogun, a dedicated son of Warri South Constituency I, have tendered my resignation as a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
“This decision is the product of deep reflection, prayer, and extensive consultations with my family, political structure, community leaders, and you the very electorates I seek to serve.
“My politics has always been rooted in internal democracy, accountability, and people-first leadership. Unfortunately, the party APC in Warri South LGA has consistently shown it is not democratically responsive in its approach. Imposition, disregard for the will of the grassroots, and suppression of fresh ideas have become entrenched. One cannot continue to pour new wine into old wineskins.
“For instance, since the merger of the Old and New APC, I have seen a concerted effort to marginalize my voice and influence in our Constituency. It is disheartening when meetings are held without my invitation, aimed at undermining my connection with you.
“My track record speaks for itself: I provided potable water through community boreholes in the Ode-Itsekiri riverine area and Bowen Ward. Beyond that, I have directly empowered more than 1,000 women and youths throughout Warri South.
“I am leaving without malice but with clarity of purpose. I thank you for the trust you reposed on me as my loyalty remains first to you the people and to the truth.
”You know me well that I am grounded amongst you the electorates of this constituency. The dynamics of my popularity are evident in words and in kind – in the town halls where we meet occasionally, in the markets where my works are testified to, and in the lives touched through years of dedication and service. That goodwill belongs to you my people, and I will follow you to a platform that respects us.
”God can do all things, and _the righteous shall be vindicated. We will not be oppressed forever. It is time to stand strong and united so we can make the difference Warri South and Delta State deserves”
