Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is non-negotiable — Omoaghe

A former All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman and chieftain of the party in Edo State, Prince Tony Omoaghe, has thrown his full weight behind the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as an irreversible resolve of Edo stakeholders.

Omoaghe made this declaration while speaking to journalists in Benin City following a stakeholder meeting of the Tinubu Again 2027 Support Group, a cross-senatorial movement drawing membership from all three senatorial districts of Edo State.

“The re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 is not negotiable. Our group has resolved to mobilise massively across all local governments in Edo State to ensure the President returns to continue the good work he has started.”

Among the landmark achievements Omoaghe highlighted was the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he described as a transformative intervention in Nigeria’s education financing landscape. According to him, NELFUND has disbursed over ₦242.4 billion in student loans, benefiting 1,388,592 students across 270 institutions nationwide. The scheme has attracted over 1.7 million applications since its launch in May 2024, reflecting an overwhelming demand and confidence in the programme.

Omoaghe also commended the administration’s bold decision to remove the fuel subsidy, noting that the policy — though initially painful — has dramatically improved revenue flows to state governments across the federation. He stated that states’ revenues have more than doubled since the subsidy removal in 2023.

He cited Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) data showing that disbursements to states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reached approximately ₦5.38 trillion in 2024 and exceeded ₦2.2 trillion in the first half of 2025 alone, underscoring a sustained improvement in intergovernmental revenue distribution.

The Convener confirmed that the Tinubu Again 2027 Support Group has adopted a grassroots strategy that will see its members canvass support in every local government area across Edo State. The group, which draws membership from Edo North, Edo Central, and Edo South senatorial districts, has pledged to coordinate ward-level structures and community engagement campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We must support this President to complete the good work he is doing. Our resolve is firm, our structure is ready, and Edo State will deliver.”
