The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the North-West has welcomed the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, into the ruling party, describing his defection as “the best political move” of his career.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Vice Chairman (North-West), Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, the caucus said Governor Yusuf’s decision underscored his commitment to progressive politics, which it noted is gaining momentum across the country.
“We wholeheartedly welcome Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the APC family. His decision to align with the progressives is a testament to the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement read.
According to the party, the Kano governor’s defection brings with it thousands of supporters and loyalists, strengthening the APC’s base in the region.
“By aligning with the APC, Governor Yusuf has taken a bold step in his political career. We in the North-West APC, and indeed the entire progressive family, are genuinely pleased to have him among us,” the statement added.
The caucus described the move as a patriotic decision that would positively influence governance in Kano State, noting that it has repositioned the state within what it called the mainstream of progressive politics.
“This action has once again placed Kano on the map of progressive politics for which it has been known for decades.
With the massive transformation and innovative leadership of the APC-led federal government, it is only natural for well-meaning leaders at the sub-national level to identify with such a development-driven agenda,” the party said.
The North-West APC further noted that the ruling party has continued to record defections from opposition ranks, including governors, lawmakers, and other political leaders, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“It has indeed been a season of harvest for the APC. We will continue to welcome every patriotic politician into our family of progressives as we grow stronger towards 2027,” the statement concluded.
