Badagry council chairmen laud SMA Movement over APC e-registration support

By Esther Onyegbula

The chairmen of Badagry Local Government and its Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) on Thursday commended the Samuel Mawuyon Ajose (SMA) Movement for its intervention in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic registration (e-registration) exercise in the area.

Speaking with journalists after a meeting with APC chairmen and party chieftains at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat in Ajara, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, said the meeting reviewed the progress and challenges of the e-registration exercise and the support pledged by the SMA Movement.

Hunpe, who spoke on behalf of the other council chairmen, explained that the engagement was to brief party leaders on discussions held with Hon. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, a native of the area, regarding ways to strengthen the registration process.

According to him, Ajose visited Badagry to assess the progress of the exercise and identify areas where additional support was required.

“We have explained the situation to him and, to our surprise, he has done beyond our expectations. He has agreed to support the exercise by doubling the equipment and personnel currently deployed,” Hunpe said.

He added that Ajose also pledged to intervene in areas facing logistical challenges, noting that the councils could not handle the exercise alone.

“There is no way a local government can do everything. He has accepted to play his role as a committed member of the party who is contributing meaningfully to its growth,” Hunpe stated.

The council chairman said the intervention would ensure a smoother registration process for existing and new members across the councils.

Also speaking, the Lagos State Chairman of the SMA Movement, Dr. Babatunde Mesiwaku, disclosed that the movement had provided 24 new printers and 44 new tablets to support the exercise across registration centres in the three councils.

He said additional funds had been released for the training of extra personnel to complement those deployed by the party.

“In the area of meetings with party chieftains and mobilisation of members for the e-registration, funds have also been provided to ensure that members can access registration centres without difficulty,” Mesiwaku said.

He assured that the support would be sustained, adding that the movement would continue to address identified gaps as communicated by council chairmen and party leaders.

Samuel Mawuyon Ajose is one of the leading governorship aspirants on the platform of the APC in Lagos State.

The SMA Movement recently donated essential equipment and cash support to all 57 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State to boost continuous voter registration and strengthen party membership mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
