The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, has announced plans to build a Warri Film Village next year.
Hon Agbateyiniro made the announcement during the opening ceremony of the inaugural Warri International Film Festival at GT Recreation Hall, Warri.
He revealed that the project, intended to position the oil‑rich city as the nation’s entertainment hub, is included in his 2026 budget presented to his council legislative arm .
Agbateyiniro named festival founder Comrade Alex Eyengho as the project consultant, describing the initiative, as a major priority for his administration.
He said the film village will be located in Orereuloba area of Warri.
The ceremony also featured performances, poetry recitations and the screening of “SUKY,” a film released earlier this year that follows a man’s quest for vengeance and the recovery of what was taken from him.
The proposed Warri Film Village aims to provide facilities and support for filmmakers, reinforcing the city’s emerging status as a key centre for the Nigerian film industry.
