Musa
… Urges Non-Politicisation of Security

A northern youth group, the Arewa Youth Advocate for Good Governance, has appealed for institutional support for the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), while urging political actors to avoid politicising security matters.
The group called on the Federal Government to allow the Defence Minister to carry out his duties without undue interference.
Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Thursday, the National Chairman of the group, Adamu Abdullahi, said national security decisions should be guided by professional considerations rather than political interests.
According to Abdullahi, the group believes that political interference in security operations could undermine coordinated efforts aimed at addressing the country’s security challenges.
He expressed the group’s support for Gen. Musa, citing his background and experience, and stated that the organisation hopes his tenure will contribute positively to national security efforts.
The group also appealed to political leaders to prioritise national interest by providing security institutions with what it described as adequate institutional backing to perform their functions.
Abdullahi said security agencies require operational space to carry out their responsibilities effectively, adding that national security issues should not be approached as partisan matters.
He further noted that addressing Nigeria’s security challenges requires cooperation among stakeholders and sustained support for institutions constitutionally charged with safeguarding lives and property.
