Sunset Haven, a beachside camping and eco-conscious community on the Lighthouse axis of Tarkwa Bay, has rapidly emerged as a preferred retreat for young creatives in Lagos seeking rest, inspiration and alternative outdoor experiences.
Founded by creative entrepreneur and former tech marketer, Oluwatosin Okedeyi, Sunset Haven is positioning itself as Nigeria’s first dedicated beach camping site. The space offers overnight camping tents, communal fire pits, journaling corners, storytelling circles and a range of nature-led activities designed to help city residents unplug from Lagos’ fast-paced lifestyle.
Okedeyi, who previously spent four years hosting pop-up beach retreats and coastal camping events, said the idea for Sunset Haven was born out of growing burnout among young people in the creative, tech and media industries.
“I realised creatives needed a space that gives them silence without taking them away from the city entirely,” she said. “People wanted rest, but they also wanted community.”
Since opening, Sunset Haven has recorded steady attendance from solo campers, artistic groups and professionals seeking new forms of relaxation and creative stimulation. Activities at the site include bonfires, painting sessions, movie nights on the beach, lighthouse hikes, karaoke and fishing. The community also organises custom teambonding and outdoor retreats for corporate organisations.
Observers say the rise of Sunset Haven reflects a broader cultural shift among young Nigerians who are increasingly embracing soft nightlife, calmer, reflective and communal experiences as an alternative to traditional club culture.
Maintaining a strong eco-conscious focus, the Haven encourages minimal waste, low-impact living and environmental responsibility. Guests are guided to support the preservation of the coastline and adhere to sustainable outdoor practices.
With a growing number of creatives and companies showing interest in collaborations, Okedeyi disclosed ongoing plans to introduce structured creative residencies, outdoor workshops and partnerships with cultural and lifestyle brands.
As Lagos continues to evolve as a creative hub in Africa, Sunset Haven is carving a niche as a nature-centered refuge offering rest, reflection and innovation along the city’s bustling shoreline.
