The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has expressed concern over recent federal and party appointments linked to Plateau State, saying the selections do not reflect the contributions of core party loyalists during the 2023 general elections.
The Forum stated its position in a release issued on Thursday while reacting to objections raised by some Plateau APC stakeholders regarding the possibility of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defecting to the ruling party.
The Forum has been advocating for Mutfwang to join the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
In the statement signed by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, the Forum appealed to President Bola Tinubu to revisit recent appointments, arguing that several beneficiaries “did not deliver their polling units” in the last election. The group urged that committed party members who supported the president’s bid be prioritised.
“We want to inform President Bola Tinubu that recent appointments linked to Plateau State do not adequately recognise those who worked for the party,” the Forum said.
The statement cited appointments such as that of APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, who was nominated to replace Yilwatda as minister after his elevation to party chairman.
The Forum said its concern is based on its interpretation of polling outcomes, noting that some appointees reportedly lost their polling units to opposition candidates during the presidential election.
It also accused certain Plateau APC figures of resisting efforts to encourage Governor Mutfwang to defect to the APC, attributing the resistance to internal political interests ahead of 2027.
“These individuals are not supporting broader efforts to strengthen the party,” the group claimed.
The Forum maintained that Mutfwang’s entry into the party would significantly bolster the APC’s strength in the North-Central region, reiterating its earlier pledge that the zone could deliver substantial votes for President Tinubu in future elections.
“They are not giving the President an accurate picture of the political situation in Plateau,” the statement said, urging a review of results from the polling units of those currently being appointed.
The statement called on President Tinubu to address concerns promptly to avoid internal party tensions and to ensure unity within the Plateau APC ahead of subsequent elections.
Plateau APC leaders cited in the statement had yet to publicly respond at the time of filing this report.
