AGN sets for 2025 UK-Nollywood roundtable – President

As part of efforts to boost the global presence of Nigeria’s film industry, popularly known as Nollywood, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) is set to host the 2025 UK-Nollywood Roundtable.

AGN National President, Dr. Emeka Rollas, disclosed this during a ‘State of the Guild’ press conference held on Thursday at the guild’s national secretariat in Abuja.

According to Rollas, the UK-Nollywood Roundtable, now in its second edition, will take place in November in the United Kingdom under the theme: “Language, Accent, and Audience: Balancing Global Reach with Audience Integrity.”

“It will bring together actors, filmmakers, and cultural advocates to explore how language and accent influence audience connection, cultural identity, and international market accessibility,” he stated.

Key topics to be discussed include: Celebrating linguistic diversity while aligning with global standards, Subtitling and dubbing for inclusivity, The impact of neutral accents and how they may dilute cultural essence

Rollas also announced that the AGN will participate in the Federation of International Actors Congress, scheduled to hold from November 12 to 15, 2025, in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

“This global congress, held every four years, provides a platform to deliberate on the welfare and challenges of actors across member countries,” he noted.

In addition, preparations are underway for the 3rd edition of the AGN International Festival: The Actors Marketplace (TAMP), which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, from November 21 to 22.

According to him, “TAMP remains a flagship event aimed at showcasing Nollywood’s rich talent pool to international producers, studios, casting agencies, and stakeholders—cementing our position as a global creative force.”

The AGN President also praised Nigeria’s participation in the recent Roundtable Discussion on Collective Bargaining and Royalties for African Actors, held from July 16 to 20 in South Africa.

“The event was a convergence of passionate minds determined to rewrite the narrative for African actors. Our discussions were robust and insightful, addressing core industry challenges,” Rollas said.

He extended appreciation to all contributors, including: Ms. Juliet Ibrahim, AGN Director of Pan-African Actors Relations, Mr. Tuvi Ugo James, Nollywood actor and moderator, Mr. Peter Kawa, National President, Kenya Actors Guild, Mr. Jack Davenarain, National Chairman, South African Guild of Actors (SAGA), Chief Fred Takum, National Actors Guild of Cameroon And actors and professionals from Malawi, Zimbabwe, and other African nations

Meanwhile, the AGN National Electoral Committee (AGNEC) for the forthcoming national election was also inaugurated during the press briefing. Veteran Nollywood actor Steve Eboh will serve as Chairman, with Blessing Edward as Secretary.

Other committee members include Sandra Okereke, Usman Galadima, Kemi Adekomi, Leo Ewuzie, and Elizabeth Ofuani.

Rollas, who is serving his final tenure, charged the committee to uphold transparency and fairness in conducting the elections. He noted that members were selected from various regions of the country and ratified by the guild’s Board of Trustees.
