In a landmark development for Nigeria’s education sector, the Osun College of Management Science (OSCOMS), Ipetu Ijesha, has become the first private polytechnic in the country — and the first institution in southern Nigeria — to receive approval to offer a National Diploma (ND) in Law.
The program received official accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Federal Ministry of Education, positioning OSCOMS as a pioneer in expanding legal education through polytechnic institutions.
According to the institution, the ND in Law is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in legal systems, court procedures, legal research, and drafting. Graduates of the program can seamlessly progress to a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Law or pursue an LL.B degree in any university worldwide.
Breaking New Grounds
Speaking on the achievement, the Rector of Osun College of Management Science, Dr. Adegoke Emmanuel Olaniyi, emphasized the institution’s commitment to innovation and technology-driven learning:
“This is a historic milestone, not only for OSCOMS but for private education in Nigeria. The integration of ICT into our ND in Law program ensures that our students are equipped for the digital realities of today’s legal landscape,” he said.
Dr. Olaniyi also noted the transformative role of ICT in other disciplines such as Mass Communication and Performing and Media Arts, which are part of the college’s growing academic portfolio.
“ICT has reshaped how legal, media, and creative professionals operate. Our programs are structured to reflect this evolution, ensuring our graduates can thrive in today’s knowledge economy,” he added.
