Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on the ongoing reconstruction of the 87-kilometre Koko-Dabai road.

The Governor gave this commendation during an inspection tour of various sections of the project while en route to Zuru.

A statement by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Kebbi State Governor, said the Governor stopped at the terminal points of each section awarded to different contractors to personally assess the progress.

At the GNIC section, after receiving briefings from the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Muslim, and the Chinese site engineer, Mr. Chong G, Governor Idris lauded the standard of work and noted that the current level of progress was impressive.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to delivering quality infrastructure and assured the contractors that the state government would release funds promptly once the Ministry of Works and the Price Intelligence Unit certify the completed portions.

“This government does not make empty promises. What we say, we mean,” the Governor declared. “We have the funds for this project. If you need anything, let us know. But I will only release money after the relevant authorities have certified your work.”

Governor Idris emphasized that all contractors must strictly adhere to the specifications outlined in their contractual agreements and urged them to remain focused and undeterred by critics who had initially doubted the administration’s commitment.

He disclosed that all three companies handling the project are on track to meet the 18-month completion deadline.

During a stop at the Habib Engineering section, Civil Engineer Bisher Moushli assured the Governor that the company would, by God’s grace, complete its portion within schedule. The Governor praised Habib Engineering as a reputable firm in the construction industry and promised continued government support.

“You should ignore social media criticisms about delays, as long as you are working according to the terms and conditions of your agreement with the state government,” Governor Idris told the engineer.

The Governor also visited the ZBCC section of the road project to assess the ongoing work.

The Koko-Dabai road reconstruction project was flagged off in January 2025 with an estimated completion period of 18 months. The breakdown of the project is as follows:
• ZBCC is responsible for the 25-kilometre stretch from Dabai to GGC Mahuta,
• Habib Engineering is handling the 25-kilometre section from GGC Mahuta to Marafa, and
• GNIC is executing the 37-kilometre portion from Marafa to Koko.
