Ayodeji Akinde’s journey into music is as soulful and spirited as the melodies he creates. Born and raised in the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria, Ayodeji grew up in a lively household as the youngest of eight children. Music was a natural part of his upbringing, rooted deeply in his experiences within a Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) church, where music, worship, and performance were essential aspects of worship. From an early age, he joined the church choir, performed choreographies at special events, and played instruments like the drums. These early experiences helped shape his deep connection with rhythm and sound.
In 2016, Ayodeji took a bold step, he traveled to the United States in search of new opportunities and personal growth. It was there that he began to seriously consider music as a career path. “Now that I’ve found myself and my passion,” he says, “I’m back in Nigeria to continue chasing my dreams.” While he laughs that money inspired him, “just joking,” he adds, the real motivation lies in the success he’s seen from other artists and the desire to turn his passion into a meaningful career. “The inspiration is natural,” he explains. “Music was always in me.”
In 2018, he released his first single. Stepping into the recording studio for the first time was a transformative experience. “It was refreshing,” Ayodeji recalls. “Hearing myself in the booth was amazing. It gave me confidence that I could improve and bring out the best in me.” That moment marked the beginning of a creative journey he continues to build upon today.
Ayodeji describes his music as Afrobeats, yet his sound carries more depth. He credits his Yoruba heritage as a key influence, regardless of whether he’s making trap, Afro-fusion, or global music. “The Yoruba culture is rich in storytelling and rhythm, and that reflects in my lyrics and delivery,” he says. Growing up in Lagos instilled a strong work ethic and hustler’s mindset, which often comes through in the themes of his songs. His goal is to blend tradition with a modern sound, staying authentic while pushing boundaries.
The heart of Ayodeji’s message is one of hope and inspiration. “I’m a dream chaser,” he says proudly. His music is a testament to believing in oneself, encouraging listeners, especially younger generations, to pursue their goals no matter the obstacles. “Dreams come true,” he adds. “You just have to stay focused.”
The road hasn’t always been easy. As an independent artist, Ayodeji often finds himself wearing many hats. He recalls a particularly challenging day when he was heading to a video shoot and had a flat tire on the way. With no team or support, he had to find a solution alone, which delayed production and caused unnecessary stress. “Music can’t be done alone,” he admits. These experiences taught him the importance of collaboration, efficiency, and building a solid team, something he now works toward as he builds his brand and musical empire.
Ayodeji’s songwriting draws from a blend of imagination, introspection, manifestation, and personal experiences. This rich tapestry of inspiration fuels music that’s not only rhythmic but emotionally resonant. His calm demeanor and unique personality shine through in both his branding and his sound. “My style is uplifting and energetic,” he says. A perfect example of this is seen in the music video for Smoke, which was filmed in Los Angeles and showcases his vibrant energy and artistic vision.
His creative process typically begins with the melody. Once the instrumentals speak to him, lyrics and themes follow naturally. As he gears up for his next project, Ayodeji promises his fans an experience to remember. “Expect nothing less than fireworks,” he says. “The greatness is here, it’s now.”
Looking to the future, Ayodeji envisions himself among the greats of African music. With a growing sense of confidence and a clear vision, he believes his time is coming. “I know I’m one of them,” he says, manifesting a legacy defined by passion, perseverance, and the power of sound.
