In an industry often driven by fame and fortune, Nigerian gospel artist Winny Ezeme stands out with a story of purpose and perseverance.
Ezeme’s early years in Enugu State were marked by hardship. When her father lost his job, she was sent to live with an aunt far from her family.
There, she endured molestation and abuse, a nightmare she eventually escaped after a decade, reuniting with her loved ones. “I battled with childhood trauma for 10 years,” she declared, a powerful testament to the resilience that now defines her music and mission.
Through it all, music became her refuge. “I’ve been singing since I was small, but in
2013, at age 18, I knew this was my destiny,” she recalls. A spiritual awakening, sparked by Isaiah 61:1–2, revealed her calling: “God showed me music was my ministry, not just a talent.”
Her big break came in 2021, post university, when a friend alerted her to Gospel Icons Africa, a nationwide talent search. Ezeme triumphed, winning N10 million, a new car, and a two year contract with M&E Music Company. Since then, she’s honed a unique sound blending soulful Nigerian rhythms with lyrics of hope that’s resonated far beyond Lagos. “They’ve helped me grow as an artist and a minister,” she says of her label.
Humble yet driven, Ezeme’s authenticity has won her a growing fanbase and industry respect. As her career soars, she remains anchored to her purpose, turning pain into a
powerful message of healing.
