The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced the enforcement of mandatory Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The enforcement began on February 1, 2025.

The police emphasized that all vehicle owners in the FCT must possess a valid Third-Party Insurance policy to operate on public roads. Non-compliance will attract strict penalties.

The statement explained that Third-Party Insurance protects road users from financial losses due to accidents, covering damages to other vehicles, property, or bodily injuries caused by the insured vehicle.

The FCT Police assured the public that harassment or extortion of motorists during the enforcement would not be tolerated, urging cooperation to ensure safer roads.

Rescue Operation and Manhunt for Suspected Armed Robber

In a separate development, the FCT Police Command successfully rescued a young woman, Promise Eze, from a suspected armed robber and ritualist at a hotel in Wuse on January 31, 2025.

Responding to a distress call, police operatives found Eze tied to a chair and unconscious, with her mouth taped shut. She was immediately rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where she was resuscitated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had met the suspect, Emmanuel Okoro, online. Using an alias, “Michael Prince,” Okoro claimed to work for an oil company in Delta State. Despite initially inviting her to Delta, they agreed to meet in Abuja.

The encounter turned violent when Okoro brandished a dagger, subdued Eze, and restrained her in the hotel bathroom before stealing her mobile phones and fleeing the scene. Disturbingly, Eze overheard the suspect speaking to accomplices, indicating plans to return to harm her further.

The police have launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect, urging residents to exercise caution when meeting unfamiliar individuals and to report any relevant information to the following lines:
